Leah Newman, LPC-MHSP, MEd, MS
Sexuality, Gender, & Alternative Spirituality
I am based in Los Angeles, California, but I spent the first half of my life in the South, calling Nashville my home for 20 years. It is here where I pursued both my Bachelor's and Master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University, graduating in 2011 with a Master's of Education with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling.
I worked in a variety of counseling settings including foster homes, on campus career counseling, group homes, and sober living facilities. Currently, I am a licensed therapist in Tennessee and see clients from all across the state.
I have been a member of Nashville's LGBTQIA+ community for over 20 years and created a private counseling practice that focuses predominately on the needs of this community. I am well-versed in the dynamics of gay and lesbian relationships, family difficulties, gender transitions, and local resources and have received in-depth training to perform transgender evaluations for adults and older adolescents.
I also completed a Master's of Science in Complementary and Alternative Medicine from the American College of Healthcare Sciences in Portland, Oregon. I bring my love for wellness into the counseling setting by focusing on holistic healing. Focusing on all components of wellness is the only way to fully become whole and healthy. I have extensive education in nutrition, aromatherapy and essential oils, spirituality, and energy healing. I am an Access Bars , Usui Reiki 2, and Holy Fire II reiki practitioner, and is certified in level 1 Energy Psychology, a treatment that has been proven effective for reducing or eliminating the body's response to trauma, pain, addiction, habits, anxiety, and many other mental health and day-to-day issues.
My professional memberships have included the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC), World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), and the National Board of Certified Counselors. Prior memberships include International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors (IAAOC) and the Nashville Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Chamber of Commerce (NGLBTCC).
